The best thing you could do is to start learning about the MVC design pattern. Once you understand how the MVC pattern works, you could start with the Cake manual and do a basic blog application just to get started.

You should read very carefully this whole document : http://book.cakephp.org/ . Read each chapter and test what you read but, skip the behaviours, components and datasources & plugins for the beggining just to get used to Cake. Then you can come back and learn about those. I’ll do very soon a series of tutorials to get started with cake so you can check them also.
